The new 2013 Porsche Cayman S model starts its sales this March, in Europe and in April, in the USA. The third-generation Cayman will be offered with a 3.4-liter flat-six engine which produces 325 hp (239 kW) and torque of 273 lbs-ft (370 Nm) at 4500 rpm, maximum 7400 rpm. With a top speed of 283 km/h (175 mph) and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h or ~0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, this car is one hot machine. It also can accelerate from 0 to 200 km/h or ~0-120 mph in about 17.1 seconds.
The new model is really a hot upcoming model. It’s a more powerful model, but its fuel consumption is reduced by up to 15 percent compared with the previous model. This was achieved thanks to a start-stop system, brake-based energy-recovery system, and a sophisticated thermal management.
The 2 door coupe is equipped with a standard manual 6-speed transmission. An optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is available for the delivery as an option. With a 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) enables faster acceleration and better fuel economy. It increases acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h or ~0-60 mph to 4.7 seconds (0.3 seconds less). A new transmission also adds additional 66 lbs (~30 kg) on this car. Ultra-quick shifts with the PDK make its acceleration just superior, and extra pounds don’t make any bad impact to the car anyways.
The direct petrol injection engine has an aluminum block and aluminum cylinder heads. One three-way catalytic converter per cylinder bank and each has two oxygen sensors. Four overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder in this engine.
For the first time, the new sports coupe is available with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and this feature wasn’t included in the previous models. This new additional feature controls the distance from the car ahead in traffic and vehicle speed. Keyless Entry & Drive system is a new feature too, which is available as an option.
Outside, the Cayman S is more distinctive than ever. New proportions and prominent lines give a better sports look. An extended wheelbase with shorter overhangs is 2.4-inch longer and more stable on the road. 18-inch wheels come with a standard model, but also available wheels with 19 & 20-ich diameter as an option. Front disc brakes are featured from the Porsche 911. Proportions of the Cayman also have been improved with a wider stance. Like on the new Boxster, taillights now are connected by a lip spoiler. Slanted intakes of the front fascia are decidedly more aggressive compared to the previous Cayman model.
The current price of a 2013 Cayman S is set at around 63,800 USD ($). The price of a base model starts from around 52,600 USD ($).
