Commanding Camaros: Fifth-Gen LSA Tuning Tips You Need To Know!

Are you the proud owner of a fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro with an LSA engine? If so, you’re in the right place! It’s likely you are reading this article because you want your American muscle to pack some more punch in the performance department. Sure, the LSA engine comes with plenty of horsepower as standard. But, if the stock output isn’t good enough for you, don’t despair because you can improve things with a few engine tweaks!
In today’s blog post, I will share with you some practical steps you can take to give your Camaro some extra power. Here’s what you need to do:
First thing’s first: make sure the engine is up to scratch
If your LSA motor screams at you but not in a good way, it’s likely you will have to fix some engine problems first. There’s no point carrying out any tuning work to your Camaro if the motor is about to throw a rod!
With that in mind, it makes sense to have a full service and mechanical inspection carried out by someone like an Autoco car mechanic. Doing so will give you the peace of mind knowing that any issues will get resolved and that your motor will be in perfect health before you start tuning it for extra performance.
The stock LSA engine is good for around an extra 250 horsepower without needing to do any major block modifications. In other words, you can do plenty of bolt-on mods without the need to do anything super expensive!
Upgrade the supercharger housing and throttle bodies
You might not know it, but the stock supercharger housing can be quite restrictive. During elevated boost pressures, the air inside of the housing cannot flow freely. Upgrading the housing to an aftermarket item can increase airflow by as much as 40%, believe it or not!
It’s a similar story with the factory throttle bodies. These 87mm units can also prevent some much-needed air from entering the engine. You can upgrade them to 87, 90, or even 102mm units.
Replace the stock fuel injectors
Although the factory fuel injection system is fine, you will need to swap the injectors for upgraded ones if you want some serious horsepower. When you do that, you’ll also need to reprogram the car’s ECU to take advantage of the more efficient fueling system.
You have many injector choices on the market for the LSA motor these days. Just make sure you choose a set that generally has good feedback from other enthusiasts. Otherwise, you could end up making an expensive mistake!
Fit some strengthened pulleys
Sure, pulleys aren’t going to provide any extra horsepower to your Camaro’s mechanical heart. However, what strengthened ones will do is ensure that your motor is running well at high RPMs! Be sure to replace the air conditioning and crank pulleys.
Conduct some cylinder tuning
Did you know that not all cylinders will run efficiently at the same time? With that thought in mind, you need to carry out individual cylinder tuning. Aside from doing some porting and polishing work, an upgraded management system will let you tweak the various air and fuel cylinders for each port individually.
