Can I Sell My Junk Car Online?
Posted by admin at 21 January 2018, at 22 : 02 PM
No matter what you do, every vehicle eventually reaches a certain stage of life where it becomes a junk car. It can’t be avoided, no matter how well you take care of your car from year to year. And, of course, you eventually come to a point of diminishing returns: it simply costs too much to maintain your vehicle from month to month, especially considering that the car itself isn’t worth much at this point.
You know that the time has come to sell your junk car. That much is certain. But, you’re not sure how to go about selling it. Should you try to sell your junk car online, using a classified website? Or is there another route that would make more sense? Read on to learn more.
Your Car’s Condition
Before you go any further, the first thing you need to do is take your car’s condition into consideration. Can it still be driven? Does it start up reliably, or are you usually crossing your fingers when you turn the key?
If your car’s still operational, an easy way to get an estimate of its value is with the Kelley Blue Book. All you’ll need to do is input your vehicle’s year, make, model, and condition. Remember, though: it’s easy to overestimate the condition of your car. If you’re trying to decide whether or not it’s time to scrap your junk car, you’re almost certainly driving something that’s in “poor” condition–or worse. Also, keep in mind that if your car is in worse shape than the Blue Book’s “poor” condition parameters, then you can’t rely upon the value quoted to you by the Blue Book: your car will be worth less than the amount they provide to you.
Evaluate Online Prices
Once you’ve got a sense of the value of your vehicle from the Kelley Blue Book, you can navigate to the Craigslist page for your town or city. From there, you’ll want to search for cars similar to yours. See if you can find some other vehicles for sale in your area that are roughly the same year and condition. Check out their prices. Have they been for sale for months, with little to no activity? If so, that may mean that they’re drastically overpriced.
Don’t assume that a single high-priced listing is an indicator that you can get the same amount for your vehicle. You’ll want to look for a trend: how much do cars like yours tend to sell for? You can look in neighboring towns and cities if your local Craigslist doesn’t turn up enough results.
Professional Junk Car Buyers
At this point, you’ve more than likely discovered that vehicles like yours aren’t selling for much on Craigslist. And, the Blue Book probably turned up an incredibly low value for your vehicle. So, what are your options?
Don’t despair: you can sell your junk car to a professional junk car buyer. Be sure to select a company that works nationwide and has a good reputation: you’ll be more likely to get a fair amount for your junk car. By working with the right company, you can get a serious amount of cash for your vehicle–all while skipping the frustration and stress that’s often associated with trying to sell a vehicle online.
