Do You Know The Most Common Causes of Accidents?

The number of car accidents each year can be pretty sobering. Each minute of every day, there’s an accident. Of course, many of these are just minor bumps, but still – factor in the cost of small scrapes and car repairs and that’s a lot of money spent each year on car accidents that are largely avoidable. Below, we take a look at some of the most common causes of accidents. If you know what’s likely to put you in an accident, you’ll be in a better position to avoid one.
Trying to Multitask
Despite virtually every study telling us, we’re pretty hopeless at multitasking, people still try and do it. When you’re driving while texting, eating, or chatting on the phone, you’re much more likely to have a problem on the road. Doing these things, instead of focusing on the road, can cause a rear end accident or another easily avoidable problem. Save your eating or communication until you’re safely parked up – nothing is as important as the safety of you and others on the road.
Trying to Beat the Lights
There are two types of towns. One where people slow down when they see the lights changing; and one where people speed up when they see lights change. Unfortunately, most people live in the latter type. This is one of the biggest of accidents, and it’s all because people can’t wait a minute for the lights to change back to green. Unless it’s not safe for you to stop when the lights are changing, you should never be running through reds.
Moving too Fast
And on a related note, how’s your speed? People who are trying to get from A to B have a habit of breaking the speed limit and trying to get there quicker. But remember this: going faster is actually pretty ineffective anyway, and aside from getting at your destination at more or less, the same time you’re also endangering yourself and others, and wasting your precious fuel at the same time. Learn the art of patience and you’ll be making your driving experience better for everyone concerned!
Under the Influence
Most people are smart enough to know that being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will have a hugely detrimental effect on their ability to operate a vehicle, yet people still do it. Whenever you’re planning to go out, look at getting a taxi to your destination or have a designated driver. Getting home safely is the only way to end a good night!
Adverse Weather
Of course, sometimes it’s not human nature that causes accidents, but mother nature. That sly old force of nature is responsibility for its fair share of mischief on the roads. A torrential downpour changes everything about driving, and it’s important that you know what you’re doing should the rain come hard and fast and refuse to leave. Equally, everyone knows that snow can wrap people up in a lot of driving bother, but not enough people know how they should actually drive in it!
