The Hennessey-powered camouflage Ford GT is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine which can produce up to 2000 hp (1471 kW). This extremely powerful engine in this Ford GT has helped to reach an extreme speed of 430 km/h or 267.6 miles per hour at Texas mile.
The fastest supercar in the world, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport can reach a top speed of 431 km/h or ~268 mph, but it needs a long distance to reach such a high speed, while the Hennessey Ford GT can reach almost the same speed within a distance of 1 mile. Sure the Bugatti isn’t powered by such an extreme engine which produces up to 2000 hp, the Bugatti has only 1200 hp (883 kW), which obviously is ridiculously a lot already. Since the Bugatti isn’t that powerful that it could reach such a high speed within a distance of one mile, that just shows how powerful and fast the Hennessey model is.
Knowing the fact that this speed record of a standing mile at Texas mile was achieved with this Hennessey Ford GT, still this is not an absolute world record of the standing mile, it’s just a new fastest record at the Texas mile. The Guinness World Record of the standing mile is 455.4 km/h or ~283 mph. This world record still belongs for the Ford GT, just it was a different Ford GT model.
The Ford GT is just a perfect car to achieve such a high speed and for breaking new world records. It is not just because it has some ridiculously powerful engine, because you can add the same powerful engine on plenty other models as well. It is because the exterior of the Ford GT is so perfect for aerodynamics that you can achieve a truly extreme speed after putting some right engine into it.
Sure, the Bugatti Veyron has almost the same good aerodynamics as well, it’s why it is so fast. Not so far is the 2014 Lamborghini Veneno with its pretty impressive top speed. The same goes for the new 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari which is extremely fast and powerful as well. Sure a lot of modern supercars have some extremely good aerodynamics, and powered with the same extremely powerful engine as this Hennessey Ford GT is, other supercars might go even faster (or not). The only way we can find out is by building some another beast engine for a different supercar model. A brutal power engine isn’t everything for achieving some ridiculous high speeds, you need to make sure that the car’s aerodynamics are pretty solid as well.
