Whether you have a pan head or a flat heat, old school Fat Boy or a brand new Sportster, making sure that you are safe when you are out cruising should be on the top of your list of priorities. One of the most important components on any car are the headlights, which help to illuminate the open road when you’re out on a late night cruise. Like any other electrical component, eventually, your headlight will burn out and will need to be replaced in order to make sure that you stay safe. Here are a few tips on replacing your led headlights bulbs.
Strip it down
Depending on the model of car that you have, you may have to take off the fairing protector through the front of the headlight, which should pop off pretty easily. There will be a ring that is chrome plated that rests behind the protector, you should be able to pull it off by hand, but remember to pull it toward you because pulling up or down may create a problem. The next step is taking off the screws that are on the front of the headlight assembly – usually there will be around two or three that can be taken off with a screwdriver.
Removal and Installation
After removing the screws, you will need to pull the headlight out by hand, making sure you are pulling straight out and not up or down. The headlight will still be attached to the plug, so do not pull too hard because you may pull loose some wires. If you do not have enough slack to pull the light out of the front, then you need to reach around the back and unplug the pigtail first. The next step will be to put on gloves so you do not get any dirt or oil on your shiny new headlight.
When you take the new headlight out of the box, you can wipe it off with a cloth to make sure it is clean and shining when you put it in. You will probably have to reach around to the back in order to guide the pigtail on to the prongs on the back of the new headlight. After you get it in and all of the rings back in, you need to turn it on in order to make sure that it is pointing straight out and if not, you may have to adjust the screws in the front to line it up.
Putting in new LED headlights is the best way to increase the level of visibility that you have.
